Vitex does not contain hormones, but acts on the pituitary gland, specifically on the production of lutenizing hormone. This increases progesterone production and helps maintain a regular monthly cycle. Dong Quai, another herb in this formula, acts to relax smooth muscles, relieving minor discomfort associated with the menstrual cycle.
