USP Progesterone (natural progesterone) is made from naturally occurring plant sterols in a patented process developed by chemist, Russell Marker in 1942. Diosgenin, a sterol from wild yam (Dioscoria) root, has historically been used for the production of natural progesterone. Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum of the ovary, and to a lesser degree from the adrenal glands of both sexes. Progesterone has multiple roles in the body. Primarily, it is required for successful implantation of a fertilized egg, fetal development, balancing the effects of estrogen, a myriad of intrinsic biologic properties, and as a precursor to other steroid hormones.
Why Paraben-Free?
We recently learned of a 2004 research study suggesting that exposure to parabens may have negative health effects. And while the results of the study are not conclusive, we decided to be proactive. Emerita immediately began developing paraben-free formulations for their products. Just to be on the safe side.

Percentage per mg: 1.6% of a 2 oz. tube is progesterone; 950mg of the cream content is progesterone derived from a greater amount of Wild Yam.
Suggested Use: Apply 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of cream into skin twice daily for 21 days. Discontinue use for 7 days and repeat. Apply cream to smooth skin areas-inner arms, and thighs, belly, breasts, buttocks, face and neck. Individual needs may vary. Those with menopause or PMS should discontinue use during the first 7 days of each cycle. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
