What is henna? Light Mountain Henna is a pure, natural product made from the powdered leaves of a shrubby desert bush. The different henna shades are blended by Light Mountain from the three varieties of henna: neutral, red, and black.

Pure henna contains a resinous substance called hannatannic acid that, when mixed with hot water, will coat hair and other protein cells (such as skin and nails). This coating action is very beneficial to your hair. It seals in oils and tightens the hair cuticle, which gives your hair a rich, healthy shine.

Often, when using henna to color your hair, the new color will go through a subtle change over a period of two to three days. Often a brassy color or a dull shade will transform itself naturally into the beautiful shades you expect from Light Mountain Henna.

Can I apply henna over a perm or chemical tint? Yes, but some extra caution is advised. Any chemical residues left in the hair can react with the henna and cause unusual shades or brassy colors. This can even happen with a chlorine build-up from swimming. Chlorine may cause a green cast if swimming often. Also, chemically treated hair is often damaged and more porous.
